Alright Sports Fans,
My first topic is about the Cleveland Browns and new head coach Eric Mangini.
This Sunday in Cleveland's 34-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, "Mangenius" decided to pull Brady Quinn at the half in favor of strong armed back-up Derek Anderson. What a bone-headed move!
I'll be the first to admit that I am not a Browns fan. Furthermore, I have no attachment to either QB. However, in a game that is already well out of reach, the score at halftime was 20-0, it seems unnecessary to start a QB controversy. Let's face it, down 20-0, Cleveland had no shot to win that game. And while the offense sputtered under Quinn, he played well enough against one of the top defenses in the league to stay in the game. His line when pulled was a mere 6-8 for 34 yds and 1 INT. Not impressive, I get it. But not only did DA continue to get blown out, he threw another 3 INTs and started a controversy that will plague the Browns for the remainder of the season.
Alright all you Cleveland fans out there, defend your coach. Or do what you should do and throw him under a bus. What will it be? leave me your comments. I'm very interested to hear what you have to say.
Douglas

No quarterback will be successful in Cleveland until the team pursues players who are actually qualified to play in the NFL. The QB controversy is just a sideshow to the pathetic athletes that constitute the entire offensive and defensive lineups.
ReplyDeleteI saw a stat that said something along the lines of Joe Flacco's qb rating was more than the combined ratings of Quinn and Anderson.
ReplyDeleteQuinn should start for the next couple weeks to get him more experience and to see what he can really do. We also need the running game to get going so that we can open up the passing game! I'm not blaming anyone at this point other than the browns really just are not a good team right now. We need some better offensive lineman and some better skill players to think about having a winning record.
ReplyDeleteInteresting Thought:
ReplyDeleteThe Browns are the only team whose first three opponents have a combined record of 9-0. Is there still hope in C-town?
I'm a firm believer that success in the NFL begins and ends in the trenches.
ReplyDeleteThe fact is, Cleveland has played the past two games of the season (really just the past 7 quarters) with a right side of the O-line that shouldn't be starting in the NFL.
Their starting RG at the moment is Hank Fraley, last year's starting Center, who hasn't ever played guard in the NFL and is only doing so because both of the other guards on the roster (Hadnot and Womack) are currently out with injury.
At RT they have a career backup of 10+ years starting well past the prime of his career. In my opinion, John St. Clair isn't even worth having on this team. Mangini picked this guy up because of his big body and the hope that he could turn into a good road-grading, run-blocking type of guy...he was mistaken.
As a lifetime Browns fan, I don't believe that either QB on our roster right now is really the savior of the organization. However, it is clear that Quinn is more qualified to run a team than Anderson. Yes, Quinn cannot seem to move the offense down field in large chunks, but he is a qualified and promising game manager that can minimize stupidity on a team that seems to be plagued with it. Given the time and experience, I believe we have a decent enough starter in Quinn that we can focus on solidifying the Offensive Line and other positions of greater necessity.
